Privacy policy
The Fraud Advisory Panel (‘We’) need to collect and use certain types of personal information about the people we deal with such as members, suppliers, customers, current, past and prospective employees, and others with whom we communicate.
We collect information directly from you (for example from event booking forms, membership application forms, change of details forms, at fairs and events and via our website), create some information internally (for example when we add payment details to your record), and obtain some information from other sources.
We fully endorse and adhere to the principles of data protection set out in the Data Protection Act 1998. We believe it is very important to respect the privacy of individuals, and to make only safe and ethical use of the information that is provided through electronic channels.
For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998, the data controller is Fraud Advisory Panel, whose registered office is located at Chartered Accountants’ Hall, Moorgate Place, London EC2R 6EA.
The information we may collect from you
The personal information we collect and process about you includes the following:
Information you give us
- Information you provide by filling in forms on our site. This includes information provided at the time of registering to use our site, subscribing to our membership, signing up to an event or to receive our newsletter services or requesting further services.
- We may also ask you to complete surveys and questionnaires that we use for research purposes, although you do not have to respond to them, and all responses are anonymised.
Information we collect about you
- If you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence (including your email address if you send an email to us).
- Details of any transactions you carry out through our site and of the fulfilment of your orders. Whilst we do not currently collect any financial information on this website, if you make a debit or credit card payment online (for example to pay membership subscription or event registration fees), you will be taken to a secure payment service provider who will take your payment on our behalf and return you to this website when your order has been completed.
- Details of your visits to our site, which we will use to help us improve the content, design and performance of the site.
- Management information on our email campaigns, such as whether you have read an email sent by us, when and how many times.
Information we receive from other sources
- We may receive information about you if you use any other services we provide. We also work closely with third parties (including, for example, business partners, sub-contractors in technical, payment and delivery services, advertising networks, analytics providers, search information providers, and credit reference agencies) and may receive information about you from them.
Technical information
We may collect information about your computer, including where available your IP address, domain name, operating system and browser software, to help us improve the content, design and performance of the site. This information is collected with your name and email address if you complete our online enquiry form.
You acknowledge that the information we receive about you may amount to sensitive personal data under the Data Protection Act 1998 and by continuing to use our site you give your consent to your data being processed as set out in this policy.
How we use your information
We may use information we hold about you in a variety of ways, including the following:
- to communicate with our members and subscribers (eg. circulation of annual accounts and notices of general meetings);
- to provide you with information, services (such as email updates) or invitations to events that you request from us, or which we think may be of interest to you, where you have consented to be contacted for such purposes;
- to carry out our obligations arising from any agreements entered into between you and us;
- to respond to any feedback you send us, if you’ve asked us to;
- to allow you to participate in interactive features of our service when you choose to do so;
- to build up a profile of your use of the website and its facilities to help us improve the content, design and performance of the site and keep it safe and secure;
- to administer our site and for internal operations, including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, research, statistical and survey purposes, and to measure the effectiveness of advertising we serve to you and others, and to deliver relevant advertising to you; and
- to make suggestions and recommendations to you and other users of our site about goods or services that may interest you or them.
Surveys and questionnaires
Information you give in response to surveys and questionnaires on the website will be used in two ways:
- by the Fraud Advisory Panel itself to conduct research, help determine policy and to help improve and target our services to users; and
- by third parties that the Fraud Advisory Panel may give the information to for market research.
In both cases, your responses will be anonymised and no identifying information about you will be collected.
Where your data is stored
We may store your personal information under your name on the Fraud Advisory Panel’s system and databases, and those operated by our service providers, to use for the purposes set out in this policy.
We may transfer your information outside the European Economic Area (EEA) to facilitate such use. These countries may provide a lower standard of protection for personal information than in the EEA. So, if we do transfer your information we will take steps to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy. By submitting your personal information to us, you agree to this transfer and processing outside of the EEA.
Disclosure of your information
We may share your information with third parties including:
- our service providers and sub-contractors, for the performance of any contract we enter into with them or you (for example, to MailChimp so that we can send you communications through their email system);
- our business partners, affiliated organisations, for the purposes set out in this policy;
- analytics, website and search engine providers, to assist us in the improvement and optimisation of our site. We will give anonymous usage statistics to other organisations, but these will not include information about domain names or IP addresses, or any information which could identify you.
We may also disclose your personal information to third parties:
- in the event that we sell or buy any business or assets, in which case we may disclose your personal data to the prospective seller or buyer of such business or assets;
- if Fraud Advisory Panel or its assets are acquired by a third party, in which case personal data held by it will be one of the transferred assets;
- in order to comply with any legal or regulatory obligation, to enforce or apply our terms and conditions and other agreements; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Fraud Advisory Panel, our members, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud protection and credit risk reduction.
Access to your information and correction
Under the Data Protection Act 1998 you have the right to request a copy of the personal information that we hold about you and to amend or update any inaccuracies. If any of the information we hold about you is inaccurate we will do our best to correct it quickly once you notify us. You can update your contact details at any time by contacting us.

How to make a complaint

What happens next?
Your complaint will be recorded and acknowledged within five working days. It will be passed to an appropriate person to investigate and take action. In most cases we hope to fully resolve your complaint within this timeframe. You will be told if it will take long, and in this case you should expect to receive a reply within 20 working days.

The ‘corporate member’ logo may be used on stationery, websites and other publications in a manner which is consistent with the promotion of the Fraud Advisory Panel’s aims. Such use is provisional on all monies presently payable by the member to the Fraud Advisory Panel having been paid.
Corporate members may not use the logo in a manner which is inconsistent with our aims and objects. Any use which is inconsistent is manifest from the content of the publication, and would include the use of the Fraud Advisory Panel’s name and logo:
- in any advertisements which a member is endorsing or approving the products of a third-party;
- on any commercial publications with non-members; or

Service availability
Whilst the Fraud Advisory Panel shall use its reasonable endeavours to ensure that this site is normally available 24 hours a day, we will not be liable if, for any reason, the site is unavailable at any time or for any period.

Website accessibility
Our website has been designed to be accessible to as wide an audience as possible including people with sight and hearing problems. It has been developed to meet W3C web standards and aims to achieve AA compliance with WCAG2 accessibility guidelines.
Layout
- We use cascading style sheets (CSS) to control site layout and presentation. This means that:
- screen reader users do not have to listen to information about the page display to get to the content;
- browser users can apply their own user stylesheet to customise how the site appears to them or use built in browser features such as zoom to view the site in the way which best suits them.
Navigation
Site navigation appears at the start of the page. Screen reader users can bypass navigation by using the ‘skip to content’ link at the start of the page. Related content navigation is listed after the main content.
Content
Content on the site has been written and formatted to be accessible. Examples of this approach include preceding sections of text with a heading, using meaningful text for links and use of the alt attribute to describe images.
Site accessibility limitations
We aim to communicate as clearly and simply as possible but some articles require a level of technical understanding due to the nature of the topic they cover. We develop our site to work with a wide range of the most popular current browsers but are not able to actively support older versions of browsers. Website content is still accessible by turning off stylesheets.

We accept that the nature of the web means that pages cannot be produced to look identical in all browsers. Presentation may vary between browsers depending on their capabilities but all content should be accessible.
