“I was recently a panellist at the Fraud Advisory Panel’s event to launch the Future Counter Fraud Community, an initiative that aims to support those aspiring for a career in counter fraud, and to enhance awareness of fraud risks. During the event, panellists across various industries and backgrounds shared information on how the fraud landscape has changed over the years, and some of the key fraud challenges facing business today. In addition, different career routes into counter fraud were discussed, as well as the varied types of counter fraud work that is performed across different roles. Advice to those who may be looking for a career in this sector was also shared.
Personally, this was a highly rewarding event as it enabled me to consider and understand how counter fraud practices are being implemented across different industries to my own, such as in government, and charities. It was satisfying to see how although different types of fraud are prevalent across different industries, we are all working together in similar ways towards the combined goal of fraud reduction. I also found the networking session to be very beneficial due to the varied mix of people who attended and spoke at the event.
The Future Counter Fraud Community is a great initiative that will help to support those starting out in a career in counter fraud. The knowledge shared by the Community will have a direct impact on awareness of fraud risks in businesses and will enable professionals to develop further skills in this area to help in their careers.”
